The Buff Breasted Paradise Kingfisher nesting season is here. This year they arrived on October 31st.

​​We cater for dedicated birdwatchers and nature lovers, so we don't advertise on accommodation rental sites.

Birdhaven Cottage deck

December & January are the best months to view and photograph the BBPK.

From February to March the adult birds are still around, while the chicks are fledglings.

Birdhaven Cottage, Julatten - Built with birdwatchers in mind...

  • The Buff-Breasted Paradise Kingfisher is normally resident on the property from November to April. (They are here now)

  • Our Birdwatcher's accommodation is a 2-hour drive from Cairns Airport, with all the roadworks since Cyclone Jasper.

  • The cottage has a bedroom with a queen bed & in the living room is a double sofa bed. (The cottage sleeps 4 people max)

  • The cottage looks out into a rainforest gully, with a bird-attracting pond at the end of a deck.

  • We have an almost perfect climate all year round, but the cottage has a reverse cycle split a/cond, just in case.

  • The kitchen has a 2-burner cooktop, microwave, kettle, toaster, sandwich toaster, gas bbq outside on the deck.

  • A wall-mounted smart TV with Blu-ray disc player along with free WiFi access. Mobile phone coverage.

  • There are also several walking tracks around the property, to view the birds and native wildlife.

  • A 50-minute drive to Port Douglas, for trips to the outer Great Barrier Reef or the Low Isles.

  • Around 70 minute drive to Daintree Village or the Daintree Ferry for birdwatching trips on the Daintree River.
